OASIS 2024
Status of OASIS Program
The Oakdale Junior High School after school program, OASIS, will likely cease to operate at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. The anticipated closure is because the program has not met the required attendance targets mandated by the ASES grant, the funding source.
Since 2019, the OASIS program has been unable to meet the attendance requirements due to limited staff and to reduced student participation. OASIS was expected to close after the 2023-2024 school year; however, it remains open because the California Department of Education (CDE) opted to once again not impose penalties for missed attendance targets for calendar year 2023. The CDE has communicated and stressed that it will impose penalties for the 2024 calendar year.
Per regulations, programs not meeting attendance targets will receive a grant reduction. The new funding level would be set at the most recent calendar year attendance percentage level attained (33% for OASIS) plus an additional 15% cushion for growth. This new funding level would significantly limit our ability to cover staffing and operational costs.
This is an unfortunate development and a big loss for the OJUSD community. Should an alternate funding opportunity arise, we will explore it and move forward accordingly.
For now, OASIS is fully funded and staff are moving forward to provide students with a wide variety of high-quality activities and experiences.
