OJUSD Cell Phone Policy

Students are permitted to possess electronic signaling devices, including but not limited to cell phones, smart watches, pagers, and other communication or recording devices. The use of such devices must comply with school policies and may be subject to restrictions during instructional time or in designated areas. Such devices shall not be used during class time or as otherwise directed. Electronic signaling devices shall be turned off during class time and at any other time directed by a school employee, unless there is prior authorization from the teacher and Principal for valid instructional or other school-related purpose. If disruption occurs, the employee may direct the student to turn off the device and confiscate the device until the end of the school day or activity. On subsequent violations, the cell phone/ electronic device will not be returned until a parent conference is held and appropriate disciplinary action is taken.

1st Offense: device confiscated; student may pick up

2nd Offense: device confiscated; student may pick up; parent notified

3rd Offense: device confiscated; parent needs to pick up

4th and subsequent Offenses: device confiscated; parent needs to pick up; detention
